egr valves   can and do mess up  sitting in the exhaust  stream

Doesnt work that way

Its a  widely held misconception that plugging in a machine or whatever will   instantly give thre answer to an enginer running problem
A code is merely a starting point for an investigation if  you  start  second guessing and  say  fit new  plug leads etc then you will fail.
No the answer comes through hard won information  that can then be used to start  an investigation leading to a theory  not plug and  up comes the answer

Burnt out valves

Even the best maintained   cars etc  can and do suffer from  burnt out valves.
Just this week  3  cars have come our way with a misfire  and  zero   compression on one cylinder.
Cheaper lower quality  petrol might be a factor  in this   or  just  bad driving habits etc

Tracking or geometry

Ouch   tracking that is  out or the alignment of the  wheels  will   cost  you in fuel and  in  worn suspension.
A good guide for  checking this  is  your tyres.
Have a quick butchers  with the steering on full lock in either  direction if  there is  obvious wear on the   inner or outer edge  greater than the rest of the tyre  then you have alignment problems
Of course the problem is finding somebody with the   tracking equipment who knows  how to use it?????????????

These  usually sit on the engine itself  however many are now in the tank   for   emission  reasons
So if  a sudden increase  or decrease in fuel pressure occurs then its  tank off  time and with it being part of the   pump etc it can be a bit pricey

Well no  you cant  at some  point in your motoring career  you will be doing this.
No1   dont rely on the   utter waste of space jack provided  by the  car manufacturer,go out and  buy a  compact trolley jack  from halfords
And  get some practice in   before  you   have a flat for real on a nice safe bit away from the roadside

One set then another  with   cop  moved to diffeent cylinders to see  whether the fault follows  them.
