hers a tool we use a great deal often  perched over hot engine  bays  seeling out  the   frail  signals  from  a sensor.
Remeber an oscilloscope  is  a voltmeter,one that is capable  of  measuring very  fast  changes in the voltage.
A typical  meter  will just  blur out the  fast changes  into a general reading giving no diagnostic  information at all
